Clinging To Life, Texas Thief May Be Front-Runner For 2017 Darwin Award

The Darwin Awards exist for a reason. Because of idiots like this Texas thief. At the very least, should he survive, he should be given an Honorable Mention in the 2017 Darwin Awards for stupid human deaths.

The idiotic thief was shot by an Arlington police officer when the weak member of the gene pool pulled out a BB gun and pointed it at the officer near a crowded mall food court Sunday afternoon.

Arlington police confirmed there was a shooting inside the The Parks Mall, located at Interstate 20 and Cooper Street, at about 4:30 p.m. They said one of their officers was off-duty and working security at the mall when a theft was reported at the Sunglass Hut.

Arlington Police Department spokesman Lt. Christopher Cook said the suspected thief ran away from the officer toward the upper-level of the food court and pointed what appeared to be a handgun at the officer.

Cook said the officer fired, striking the person, identified as 21-year-old William Paul Dodd, multiple times. Dodd was taken to a nearby hospital, where he is in critical condition, reports NBC 5.

“This happened when the mall was extremely busy, there were a lot of bystanders,” Cook said. “But luckily no one else was injured in this incident.”

Late Sunday night, Arlington police released surveillance photos from inside the mall showing Dodd pointing the weapon at the officer while standing on the escalator. The mall also released a photo of the weapon they said caused the officer to shoot Dodd.

Cook said Dodd is a known offender within the Arlington Police Department and a convicted felon.

Cook said Dodd called Arlington 911 approximately an hour before the mall shooting. Dodd told the dispatcher ‘I know Arlington is looking for me.’ Dodd then told the dispatcher he was armed and threatened to shoot officers.

There was also an arrest warrant out for Dodd for making a false report, Cook said.
