The most powerful Democrat on Capitol Hill said Friday that President Trump should call off his summit next week with Russian leader Vladimir Putin after prosecutors indicted Russian military operatives for hacking Democrats (and only Democrats) during the 2016 election.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, New York Democrat-Communist, said the indictments prove Mr. Putin’s government interfered with the election — and said Mr. Trump needs to take steps to make clear he understands the gravity of that.
“President Trump should cancel his meeting with Vladimir Putin until Russia takes demonstrable and transparent steps to prove that they won’t interfere in future elections,” Mr. Schumer said. “Glad-handing with Vladimir Putin on the heels of these indictments would be an insult to our democracy.”
Other Democrats have said Mr. Trump should use his Monday meeting as a chance to confront Mr. Putin, the Washington Times reports.
Mr. Trump has been less than clear on his beliefs about Russian efforts in the 2016 election. At times he has said he accepts his own government’s finding that Russians interfered, but other times has said he credits Mr. Putin’s insistence that Russia was innocent.
Mr. Trump was briefed on the new indictments this week, but has yet to talk about them publicly.
The White House, though, issued a statement stressing that no Americans are accused of wrongdoing in the new indictment.
“Today’s charges include no allegations of knowing involvement by anyone on the campaign and no allegations that the alleged hacking affected the election result. This is consistent with what we have been saying all along,” said White House spokesperson Lindsay Walters.
Hours before the indictments were announced, Mr. Trump said he didn’t have high expectations for the Putin meeting. And he signaled he will warn the Russian president not to meddle in American elections.
Not long ago, Senator Schumer’s niece went on The View to express her apologies for being white.
In an amazing move for a Democrat, Amy Schumer confirmed she is, in fact, white Friday on “The View.”
After all, they don’t even know what bathroom to use, so the fact that Ms Schumer can determine for herself her genetic lineage, it’s quite a breakthrough.
Playing the “white-guilt” card that leftists adore, she stated that she would have liked if a “woman of color” was the star the new movie “I Feel Pretty,” the movie that she herself, a white woman, chose to star in.
“The backlash was people were saying your character is a blonde of healthy weight who is attractive, and you’re supposed to make us believe that you are ugly? How do you respond to that?”
“First of all, that’s the nicest backlash I’ve ever heard,” Schumer said.
“No, it just made me excited for people to see the movie,” she said. “It’s not about an ugly, vile troll getting beautiful. It’s about a girl who really struggles with self-esteem, which is something we can all relate to.”
“Also, I think it is fair to say that it’s a lot harder for other people,” she added, “and I recognize that I am a caucasian, like — I would love if this movie were starring a woman of color who’s had it way harder than me, and I think, I hope we get there. This is hopefully just a step in the right direction.”
