Marriage of Mentally Ill Couple Ends When Husband Brutally Murders His “Wife” #crime #murder

A mentally ill (wo)man who founded the Miss Trans America pageant is believed to be the first known transgender person killed this year.

Christa Leigh Steele-Knudslien, 42, was found stabbed and beaten in his North Adams, Mass. home on Friday night, according to a police statement cited by Masslive.com.

A transgender rights advocate who started a pageant for transgender (wo)men in New England was found stabbed and beaten to death in his home, and his husband was charged with her slaying.

Christa Leigh Steele-Knudslien is the first known transgender person to be killed this year, LGBT organization GLAAD said .

(S)he was found dead in his North Adams home on Friday evening. His husband, Mark Steele-Knudslien, pleaded not guilty to murder on Monday, days after police say he admitted hitting him with a hammer and stabbing him after an argument.

Mark Steele-Knudslien, 47, admitted in an interview that he killed his wife, police said in a statement filed in the Northern Berkshire District Court, MassLive.com reported .

The husband said he struck him numerous times with a hammer and then stabbed him in the back with a large knife before wrapping his body in a tarp, police said.

He told investigators they got into an argument and he “snapped,” adding that (s)he was “always belittling him,” police said, according to MassLive.com.

He turned himself in at the police department on Friday, telling officers he had done “something very bad,” police said.

Police arrived at the couple’s home at around 9:20 p.m. on Friday, where Christa Steele-Knudslien’s body was found wrapped up in the basement, according to police.

A knife was missing from the butcher block in the kitchen, and the scene was consistent with Mark Steele-Knudslien’s account, police said.

He was held Monday without bail. His attorney didn’t immediately respond to an email seeking comment.
