Famed attorney, author, and constitutional scholar Alan Dershowitz, who supported Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election, condemned the FBI’s raid on the office of President Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, and also denounced the Communist-founded American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) for praising the raid.
“If this were Hillary Clinton, they [ACLU] would be raising money left and right defending Hillary Clinton’s rights,” said Dershowitz on the April 16 edition of Fox & Friends.
“But now they’re raising money left and left by attacking Trump and putting the attack on Trump over defending our civil liberties,” he said.
“Why do you think I’m here all the time?” said Dershowitz, who is known fo rhis liberal political views. “Why do you think I’m speaking up in favor of a man I voted against?”
“Because the ACLU is dead in the water,” said the emeritus professor of law at Harvard University. “Who has ever heard of the ACLU coming in, not only justifying, defending, but applauding a raid on a lawyer’s office, which may very well have taken material that was [protected by attorney-client privilege].”
When asked if he thought the ACLU was being political, Dershowitz said, “It is absolutely political. It is a partisan, hard-left, political organization, which no longer cares about the civil liberties of all Americans.”
“It is agenda-driven, money-driven and anti-Trump,” said Dershowitz.
Dershowitz called the events a “very dangerous day” for the attorney-client privilege.
“I deal with clients all the time,” he explained. “I tell them on my word of honor that what you tell me is sacrosanct. And now they say just based on probable cause even though there was cooperation with Cohen, they can burst into the office, grab all the computers and then give it to another FBI agent and say you are the firewall. We want you now to read all these confidential communications. Tell us which ones we can get and which ones we can’t get.”
Dershowitz also called Mueller and his team “overzealous” and are determined to get their target — the president of the United States and the people close to him.
“He is just determined to get his target,” Dershowitz said of Mueller. “And when you appoint somebody to be a special counsel, there is a target on the back of the president. The target on the back of people close to the president.”
