You had to wonder how long it would take before Bannon and Breitbart would part ways after recent comments and the recently released book.
Well, it happened.
Stephen K. Bannon has stepped down from Breitbart News Network, where he served as Executive Chairman since 2012.
Bannon and Breitbart will work together on a smooth and orderly transition.
Bannon said, “I’m proud of what the Breitbart team has accomplished in so short a period of time in building out a world-class news platform.”
According to Breitbart CEO Larry Solov, “Steve is a valued part of our legacy, and we will always be grateful for his contributions, and what he has helped us to accomplish.”
It was almost inevitable that Bannon and Breitbart would separate ways, and this was quite possibly the most graceful parting of ways that has happened in the media in recent memory.
Then there’s the report that Bannon Group shopped anti-Trump document in 2015.
In 2015, the Government Accountability Institute, a research group co-founded by Steve Bannon in 2012, created an anti-Trump dossier documenting Trump’s questionable business ties with criminals, according to CNN. The group, funded by the Republican megadonor Mercer family, then distributed the dossier to multiple donors who supported candidates opposed to Trump. At the time, the Mercer family supported Ted Cruz.
Recently, President Trump’s lawyers sent a cease-and-desist letter, threatening ‘imminent’ legal action against former top strategist Steve Bannon.
The letter is a response to sharply critical comments that Bannon reportedly made to journalist Michael Wolff about Trump’s campaign and leadership.
Charles Harder, Trump’s attorney, charges in the letter that Bannon violated a non-disclosure agreement signed during the campaign by disclosing confidential information, speaking to the media about the campaign and disparaging members of the Trump family. Additionally, Harder suggests that Bannon told lies that defamed and slandered Trump.
